The rule
Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) is a federal rule that took effect on February 7, 2022. If you are getting a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time, upgrading from Class B to Class A, or adding a Passenger, School Bus, or Hazmat endorsement for the first time, you must complete training with a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
ELDT has two parts. Theory covers the knowledge and can be completed online. Behind-the-wheel training is done in person.
Theory
Online, at your own pace. This is what ELDTHub provides. You finish with an assessment and a passing score of 80% or higher.
Behind-the-wheel
In person with a registered training provider, on a range and on public roads. Required for Class A, Class B, Passenger, and School Bus. Not required for Hazmat.
